I feel concerned about all areas of the city whether it affects me directly or not!
But nobody is that lucky...the statistics are against us. In the last year in my life alone have been three incidents of violence affecting me and the people I love and care about.Two of these incidents were deadly. The most recent was an assault that nearly resulted in death and was especially disturbing to me personally not just for its horrific magnitude but because I suffered and lived through a very similar incident 22 years ago that happened to take place in the same area of the city.
I am just mad at myself that I could not have exited this hellish place earlier! I will get outta this place-if it's the last thing I ever do!!!!

I heard the car speeding outside and I thought I was having a nightmare...I bolted upright and screamed ,"Oh My God!!", just as I heard an immediate thundering, monstorous CRASH!

I Encourage Comments From ALL ESPECIALLY South Philly

I really appreciate that some of you are acually reading this!!!My neighboorhood is going to hell in a hand basket! One comment reflected the racism inherent in our city...that this group or that group causes problems that sink our already sinking ship. Across the street and down my own street ALL the drug dealers are WHITE. Other races come and go...customers dealers enforcers etc., but the home owners are WHITE HONKIES!

I diligently read "The South Philly Review " every week and as far as crime in the city of brotherly shove goes their report is classic. Bottles used as weapons at bustops, teen muggers on bikes,rapists assaulting victims with weights, and various road rage incidents including teen on child incidents. I am not easily shocked. But one item last week blew my last gasket! The cops caught a guy walkin around near 5th and Reed with an Uzi....that's right A FUCKING UZI!!! ...with 25 in the clip!!!

Guardian Angels...

If the Gaurdian Angels are still recruiting in Philly...check Craigs List under "Volunteers" if interested....I am thinking about joining if they will have me!

Neighbors From Hell...Hell Is For Children...

I came out of my house the other day to find a woman screaming at her under 7 year old child sitting on the end of the curb...she asked if I would give her cash for a personal check...complaining of not having money for this poor childs medicine or some other bullshit. I asked if she lived here (meaning on our street) She said yes but I did not believe her till I saw this kid playing down the block and believe me he is pissed and miserable! Should I call Social Services on this bitch or what? It's such a damn shame...or as they say in South Philly, "It's A Sin..."

Another severe, hot as balls day in the City Of Brotherly Shove...anybody in their right mind would not be out here sizzlin' like an egg in a frying pan...this is your brain....this is your brain on drugs in Philly...

Get The F*#k Outta Dodge...

I must admit I have a love/hate relationship with Philly.
Latley, the two polar emotions are duking it out around the raw wound that once was my heart. The crime, blight, lack of fashion sense and ghetto attitudes are putting a real hornets nest in my bonnet! As if just FILTH alone isn't enough!
I used to think it was just my up and coming mid-life crisis but everything here is stale,stagnet and has the ambiance of a graveyard.
Nobody ever challenges the status quo(This ain't NYC! Art, Fashion, and Culture as well as artists themselves truly suffer in Philly! We can afford to be here to do just that!)
My next question...why does almost everyone I know who leaves here to live in another city come crawling back? Perhaps they realize it costs too much to live in a less hateful place...or they just love the familar...it isn't hard to be top dog in this kennel of rabid pitbulls!

It is a well writen, mindful piece that does not pretend to have the answer.

Trouble On The Block...

It has been brought to my attention recently that there is small time riff-raff on our block airing dirty laundry. Two low-lifes came around to collect money owed by the fat-boy resident. They caused a big rukus arguing loudly and scaring elderly residents in broad daylight. Their stupid friend has a skateboard with a gas tank hooked up to it that is loud as shit and stalls constantly. If these losers think I won't call the cops on thir dumb asses they are WRONG. I am not afraid of their pathetic gangster wanna be ways...

It seems pretty unfriendly out here in the cold city...

Someone went out of their way today to tell me that I shoulnt be riding my bike on the sidewalk...I was just trying to live...I only ride up on the sidewalk when I absoulutly have to...but anyway I told them "I do what I need to do to stay safe!" Same as it ever was...

The "greeter" @ my bank that I talk to all the time said one of the branches was held up @ gunpoint recently. Three guys, three guns...they got into the locked area behind the "bulletproof" glass...the "greeter" said they don't pay bank tellers enough to be risking their lives like that besides it's a bullshit job. How much is a life worth anyway?

I was in a Food Court down town recently and these obseesive-compulsive images kept popping into my mind: I don' t want to die crawling on my belly through wreckage/carnage with these people I see around me in this god-forsaken place...earlier in the day I spotted a "Homeland Security" vehicle parked outside. The occupants were eating donuts...

Gunshots Rang Out...

Not long ago there was an attempted robbery...these guys ran through our streets in a residential area in broad daylight with the cops chasing them...my roommate said she heard b/w 30-50 shots ring out...one of the bullets flew into someones house and hit an innocent bystander... I was running late that morning on my bike and there was only a ten or fifteen minute gap that prevented me from possibly getting caught up in the mix... rained on by a hail of bullets...I guess timing is everything in life...we tried to forget about it but not long after ( in an unrelated incident)some young guy was found murdered... shot in the head and chest @the bar down the street... read the local neighborhood papers...it just gets worse...and they want to build casinos here?!?!
